Biography:

Cihat Aşkın is a Turkish violinist born in Istanbul. Recognized for his talents in both Eastern and Western music traditions, Aşkın stands out as an international representative of the Turkish violin school. Throughout his career, he has given numerous concerts and recitals around the world, won many awards, and gained wide international acclaim.

Aşkın began his musical journey at an early age. Thanks to his extraordinary talent, he was admitted to the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory. He completed his studies under the guidance of Prof. Ayhan Turan and became a recognized violinist at a young age. He later continued his education in London, where he completed both his Master’s and Doctoral degrees.

Having received many national and international awards throughout his career, Aşkın has participated in festivals across numerous countries and shared the stage with renowned artists worldwide. He is also known for his efforts in institutionalizing music education and the arts.

In order to inspire children to love music, Aşkın launched the “Cihat Aşkın and Little Friends” project, supporting the careers of many young musicians. He has also composed works for violin and other instruments and has made numerous recordings.

As an institutional leader, Aşkın has founded and led many music organizations and projects. In 2001, he established the Istanbul Chamber Orchestra, serving as chairman of the board, organizing educational concerts and music festivals. In line with his goals of preserving cultural identity and supporting young artists, he also produced concerts and radio programs for TRT.

Cihat Aşkın serves as the General Music Director of the Aşkın Ensemble, founded in 2007; the Aromsa Youth Chamber Orchestra, founded in 2021; and Adrafest, established in 2023. He performs using Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (1846) and Gaetano Sgarobotto (1924) violins in his concerts. Cihat Aşkın is an artist represented by IMK Classic Management, Kalan Music, and Larsen Strings. He currently works as a lecturer at the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory.
