By training students to be both familiar with Turkish Music in a broader sense and also have knowledge of the musical and acoustic properties of traditional instruments, the department helps students make use of their knowledge in scientific studies and so contribute to local and global cultural heritage. The instrument making faculty consists of experienced luthiers of plucked instruments (i.e. guitar, kanun, ud, tanbur, tar and bağlama) and bowed instruments (i.e. kemençe, kemane, violin, viola and cello). The sound design faculty consists of music producers and sound engineers who are experienced in recording, editing, mixing, mastering of various genres (i.e. classical, new music, Turkish makam based music, Turkish folk music, jazz, pop, rock and experimental), and sound designers who have contributed to artistic creations in various forms (i.e. sound installations, sound design for film, soundtracks, electroacoustic works and sonic arts).
