The in-depth study of Turkish Folk Music and Classical Turkish Maqam Music embraces research, data acquisition and data analysis from many fields such as: history, literature, sociology, philology, physics, phonetics, musicology, and folklore. It includes the application of not only musical experience and values, but all thoughts and opinions regarding these experiences via scientific methods.

Since entering academia in the Republican period, this field has become more distinct as the changes of 21st century globalization have highlighted its importance. To this end, it is vital to follow up current studies and literature regarding periodical movements, schools and styles. In addition to making written resources accessible and thereby enriching the literature in this area, the program also provides opportunities for students who wish to work in this discipline.
