Biography:

Sedef Durmak, who was born in İzmit on September 4, 1996 entered the Piano Department of Uludağ University State Conservatory in 2005 and began her musical education with Prof. Aylin ÇAKICI UZAR. On May 14, 2011, Durmak performed W.A. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. K.488 as a soloist with the Uludağ University State Conservatory Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Görkem ÇALGAN. She participated in Marta GULYAS's piano class at “Klasik Keyifler” Music Festival in Cappadocia and performed in various concerts. In 2014, she participated in Freddy KEMPF's masterclass at the “15th Antalya International Piano Festival”. As a part of the Gümüşlük Festival Academy, she gave various concerts in Bodrum in 2015 and worked with Vyacheslav GRYAZNOV, Martin ROSCOE, and Anika VAVIC during this period. On January 8, 2016, Durmak performed Carnival of Animals from Camille Saint-Saens with the U.U.D.K. Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Dağhan Sedat DOĞU at the Uludag University State Conservatory Hall. She repeated the same concert on March 2, 2016, at the Merinos Congress and Culture Center.

 

In the Spring semester of 2016-2017, Durmak was accepted to study at the “Hochschüle für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover” through the Erasmus Program. During her time in Germany, she studied piano and chamber music with Prof. Alexander SCHIMPF. She also studied contemporary music with Prof. Darlén BAKKE, focusing on works by composers such as John CAGE, Henry COWELL, and George CRUMB, and also gave concerts in this field. After completing the Erasmus program, she returned to Uludag University State Conservatory. Durmak, who successfully graduated from the Piano Major program in 2017, was accepted to the Master's of Music program in piano at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, where she studied under Dr. Oya ÜNLER BAYKA. After graduating successfully from the Master's program in 2021, Durmak began her Proficiency in Music degree at Bursa Uludağ University State Conservatory.

Durmak is currently continuing her doctoral studies under Dr. Emre ELİVAR and also works as a research assistant in the Instrumental Department of the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory.
