Biography:

Songül Karahasanoğluis a professor in the Turkish Music State Conservatory in Istanbul Technical University, where she teaches ethnomusicology and popular music.She is the author of “Muş Türküleri ve Oyun Havaları”, “Müzikte Araştırma Yöntemleri” and ‘Mey ve Metodu’, the only works of are kind currently in publication. She continues her research and publications in the area of TurkishPopular Music, Islam and Music, Turkish Folk Music, Turkish Folk Instrument: The Mey.She received a long-term research scholarship from ITU in the 2001-2002 academic year and she did researches on Canada “Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Theories “at York University in Canada. She completed the Project “Transnational Perspectives of Contemporary Turkish Islamic Popular Music” awarded Full Bright scholarship in 2008-2009 academic year at University of Texas and she is preparing the book about the same topic.
