Biography:

He was born in 1971 in Hafik district of Sivas. He finished primary school in Istanbul. In 1982 He passed the exams of ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory and started his baglama education. He completed his middle school, high school and university education there and graduated as the top student in 1992. The same year, he started his master's degree at ITU Social Sciences Institute. He graduated with a thesis titled "Evaluation of the Concept of Polyphony in Turkish Folk Music" in 1995. The same year, he started the Proficiency in Arts program at ITU Social Sciences Institute. In 2000, he completed his thesis titled "Problems Seen in Baglama Education and Their Solutions".
Snce 1987, he has worked as a baglama artist in groups including Istanbul University Folk Music Ensemble, Turkish Radio Television Co. (TRT) and many public education centers. He represented Turkey as a baglama artist in France, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Syria, Japan and China.
Aside from he is a baglama performer; he contributed to various CD and live music projects, produced in different works, as a music director and arranger. Beside his performance works, he presented papers in scientific meetings such as symposiums, congresses, panels, etc.
Koç, who started working as a research assistant at the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory in 1996, received the title of associate professor in 2002 and was appointed to the ITU TMDK Instrument Department as a baglama faculty member. In 2007 he carried out as the Head of the ITU TMDK Music Technologies Department. Between 2004 and 2007 he carried out assistant director at ITU TMDK.
In 2008, he released his first instrumental album project called “Invitation to a Journey”. He was promoted to professorship the same year. Between 2012 and 2018, he carried out as the director of ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory. He released his instrumental single, called “The Night” in 2023. He currently continues to work as a baglama lecturer at ITU TMDK.
