Biography:

Ufuk Biçak started his music education in Ankara by taking piano lessons from Kemal Eroğlu. He completed his undergraduate education at Dokuz Eylül University İzmir State Conservatory, Department of Composition and Orchestral Conducting as a composition student of Onur Nurcan. After his undergraduate education, he was accepted to Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Composition and Conducting Master's program. Here he studied composition with Hasan Uçarsu. He also studied composition with Mehmet Nemutlu and Özkan Manav. The new harmony theory based on mathematical patterns developed by Ufuk Biçak was accepted as a master's thesis and published in 2018. He graduated from the same institution with a proficiency in art degree under the supervision of Mehmet Nemutlu.

Biçak’s chamber music and orchestral works have been performed by ensembles such as St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, İzmir State Symphony Orchestra, Dokuz Eylül Symphony Orchestra, Ergon Ensemble, Calefax Reed Quintet, Venera Ensemble, Ensemble Plug in various concerts and festivals in Turkey and abroad. In 2016, he was entitled to participate in the Asian Composers League festivals organized in Vietnam and in 2018 in Taiwan and represented Turkey as a composer in these festivals.

In 2020, Biçak won the first prize in the “1st MECA Project” international composition competition (Iran) with his music Adapt, and in 2021 he won the first prize in the “11th Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı National Composition Competition” (Turkey) with his Cello Concerto. In 2022, he won the first prize in the “15th Calefax Composers Competition” international composition competition (Netherlands) with his music titled Devinim. In 2024, his orchestral music Axes and Orbits was performed by the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra and received the orchestra special prize at the “18th Open Composers Competition named after Andrey Petrov” (Russia).

Ufuk Biçak has worked as a guest lecturer at MSGSÜ Istanbul State Conservatory, T.C. Haliç University Conservatory and Marmara University GSF Music Department, where he taught harmony, counterpoint, musical analysis, music theory and instrumental knowledge. He is currently working as a lecturer at ITU TMDK Music Theory Department.
