Biography:

He graduated from the Department of Basic Sciences at Istanbul Technical University in 2010. In 2011, he completed the Teacher Training Programme at Yıldız Technical University, and in 2013, he completed the Master’s degree programme with thesis in the Department of Turkish Music at the Institute of Social Sciences, Haliç University. In 2024, he completed his PhD programme in the Department of Turkish Religious Music at the Institute of Social Sciences, Istanbul University. Aiming to continually advance his mastery of the ney through his education, Burak Malçok has continued his work in this direction. Since his university years, Burak Malçok has had the opportunity to work with many esteemed ney masters who have preserved the essence of the instrument and introduced and taught the ney to younger generations in an academic setting.
Since 2007, Burak Malçok has performed as a ney player at numerous national and international festivals and events. Among the major festivals he has participated in are: the 2007 International Ney Players’ Gathering held in Turkey during UNESCO’s Rumi Year, the Sarajevo Jazz Festival, the France Festival des Mondes Pluriels, the 30th Festival de México, İstanbulive USA, Roots of Worldmusic Rudolstadt 2014, the Holland Festival, and Cappadox. Burak Malçok has contributed to numerous film, television series and stage projects, both as a ney player and as a composer.

Burak Malçok, who is currently pursuing an academic career, released the album “Saklı Nefes” in 2016, which reached the top of the World Music Charts Europe (WMCE) charts. He also released the album “Karantina Günlüğü” and the single “Rebirth” in 2020. He continues to work on various albums and singles, both as a solo artist and as part of various groups.
