Sair Sinan Kestelli received undergraduate and graduate degrees in environmental engineering and environmental sciences, followed by a Master’s degree in Music with a specialization in sound engineering and design from the Centre for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He later completed his doctoral studies in music at the same institution, specializing in sonic arts.
During his graduate studies at MIAM, he became interested in electroacoustic music and live electronics, producing several works in these fields. One of these works, ‘earthworks’, was included in the 2016 album ‘Anthology of Turkish Experimental Music: 1961–2014’, released by Sub Rosa Records. He participated in various national and international events with his fixed-media electroacoustic compositions, live electronics performances and sound installations. He also collaborated with different choreographers on contemporary dance and performance projects as sound designer and performer.
He released two albums, ‘Poles Re-mediated’ featuring a work commissioned in 2017 by Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin, and ‘kontraste’, a collection of his fixed-media electroacoustic music compositions.
Sair Sinan Kestelli is currently teaching courses about electroacoustic music composition and performance, computer music and musical interaction design in the Music Technology Department at ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory as well as ITU MIAM. He produces different works at different platforms focusing sound in various contexts and its relationship with physical spaces. In addition to his solo work, he collaborates with Tuğrul V. Soylu as part of the electronic music duo, ‘mondual’.
