Gökhan Deneç (Istanbul, 1977) is a sound professional and academic at Istanbul Technical University, where he teaches in the State Conservatory for Turkish Music (TMDK) and the Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). After completing a B.Sc. in Mathematical Engineering in 1999, he entered MIAM’s Sound Engineering and Design graduate program in 2001 and earned his Ph.D. in the same field in 2015, focusing on the intersections of sound design, technology, and aural perception. He has participated in various research projects supported by Turkey’s Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) and ITU’s Scientific Research Projects Program (BAP). He has been teaching since 2010 at ITU and as a visiting lecturer at several other state and private universities.
Since 2003, Deneç has been active in multiple areas of the music and film industries, including album production, post-production, and live sound engineering. Alongside his academic work, he is a member of the experimental music collective Daire 2: General Gramofon (D2GG) and continues a solo project under the name Mayzerkaiser. His contributions include site-specific sound installations—both solo and in collaboration with Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu—within the Istanbul art scene, as well as performance engagements in large-scale installations such as Cevdet Erek’s Bergama Stereo, first presented at Ruhrtriennale 2019 in Bochum (Turbinenhalle, Jahrhunderthalle) and later at Hamburger Bahnhof, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, where he contributed to the performance program.
His collaborations in dance and theater include sound design and implementation for Taldans Company’s Less than no time / Andan Daha Kısa for the 24th Istanbul Theatre Festival (2020), as well as sound and effects design for stage productions such as Misafir: İyi Bir Güneş (2018) and Ev'vel Zaman (2016), both directed by Gülce Uğurlu with dramaturgy by Ata Ünal. More recently, he co-founded the sonic performance duo DUNF with composer Fulya Uçanok, which opened La Biennale di Venezia’s Amfibio Sound Days at İBB Artİstanbul Feshane in 2025.
